Bodie Photography Workshops

Calling all Photographers … Here is your opportunity to take some uniquely beautiful photos and help preserve what we love—Bodie State Historic Park. Your participation in our photo workshops directly benefits the Bodie Stabilization Project by providing a stream of income to keep Bodie looking as it does today for future generations.

Workshop Leaders … All photo workshops require a permit and fees, administered through the Bodie Foundation. Our workshop season runs from late-May until mid-October each year.

We are no longer accepting bookings for our 2024 season.

REGISTRATION FOR THE 2025 SEASON WILL BEGIN ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2024 and WILL BE ONGOING.

Workshop leaders interested in holding a photo workshop in Bodie in 2025 may submit workshop date requests by emailing us at PhotoWorkshop@BodieFoundation.org. beginning at midnight, Monday, November 11, 2024.

Requests will be processed in the order received.

In the event you have to cancel your workshop, $100 of your deposit will be considered non-refundable. This is to pay for the Bodie Foundation staff hours that go into the initial registration process prior to your arrival. Even if you cancel, we have put hours into planning your photo workshop.

In the event CA State Parks or Bodie Foundation must cancel your workshop due to park closure or unsafe conditions, your entire deposit will be refunded.

Leader’s Steps for Registration:

  1. Email photoworkshop@bodiefoundation.org to request your preferred workshop dates. If your date(s) are available, you will be invoiced promptly for your deposit to reserve your dates. The deposit is due within two weeks of receiving the invoice in order to reserve your requested dates.

  2. You will also be sent a permit application and workshop agreement form. Both need to be filled out, signed, and returned to photoworkshop@bodiefoundation.org within two weeks of confirmation of your workshop date(s).

  3. Workshop leaders are required to carry a minimum of $1 million liability insurance coverage valid on the date of the workshop. We need a certificate of insurance (COI) from your insurance company verifying that this is the case, and identify Bodie State Historic Park, and Bodie Foundation as certificate holders.

  4. If members of the group wish to use their photos taken at Bodie for commercial purposes, there is an additional permit required from the California Film Commission. Application to the State must be made two weeks prior to your workshop date. The group leader may obtain a permit that covers the entire group.

  5. Two weeks prior to workshop date, you will be invoiced for the remaining participant fees which are due upon receipt of invoice.

  6. If you have requested an additional workshop monitor, the additional monitor fee must be paid prior to the workshop date.

  7. A list of participant names and email addresses is required.

  8. All participants must be present, and paperwork and fees must be in order before you may enter the park for your workshop.

The Photo Workshop program at Bodie has been a rewarding and successful program for many years, and we look forward to welcoming you to the scene of a colorful past, beautiful sunrises, and stunning night skies.

Thanks go out to both workshop leaders and participating photographers for working with us to preserve Bodie through your photography and financial contributions to the stabilization projects throughout the park.
